A study on the pulmonary function of physical high school students by the forced expiratory volume curve

Abstract
Pulmonary ventilatory funtions of healthy physical high school students (age range: 15-19 years; 242 male and 86 female) were estimated by means of forced expiratory volume test.
@ES The results obtained were as follows.
@EN 1. Means and standard deviations of some pulmonary funtion parameters were;
Male Female
FVC 4.30¡¾0.73 3.32¡¾0.84
FEV0.5(L) 3.28¡¾0.54 2.58¡¾0.38
FEV1(L) 4.16¡¾0.66 3.26¡¾0.57
FEF200-1200(L/sec) 8.31¡¾1.59 6.37¡¾1.29
FEF25%-75%(L/sec) 5.89¡¾1.31 4.87¡¾1.01
The means of above parameters were significantly higher than those of other high school students in same age group.
2. Students enrolled in personal competition type activities showed lower physical and pulmonary ventilatory status than students enrolled in other activities.
3. As the predictor variables for the pulmonary funtion parameter, body height was the most prominent predictor variable than age or body weight.
4. Observed values of tests always exceeded predicted values in every parameters and those parameters as well as physical physical characteristics were superior to those of other studnets in same age group.
